Tozama Kulati Siwisa, Executive Director and Head of Corporate Affairs at West Wits Mining, attended the 2026 Mine Health and Safety Tripartite Summit, held on 17–18 September 2026 at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg. Hosted by the Mine Health and Safety Council (MHSC) under the theme “Accelerating Innovation, Inclusion and Accountability Towards the Achievement of Zero Harm,” the Summit brought together Government, organised labour, employers and other stakeholders to consider the strategic direction of mine health and safety in South Africa.
The 2026 Summit marked 30 years since the promulgation of the Mine Health and Safety Act of 1996, offering an opportunity to reflect on the progress achieved, acknowledge the challenges that remain, and renew the collective commitment to Zero Harm.
Tozama engaged with the Honourable Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Mr Gwede Mantashe, during the event.
“In mining, few conversations matter more than whether our people return home safely at the end of every shift. Having Government, organised labour and employers in the same room is where progress begins, but Zero Harm is not reached in a conference hall. It is built in everyday practice and accountability, at every operation. Thirty years on, that responsibility is one we keep choosing.”
