This year, we proudly sponsored and introduced the Rising Star Award at the Australia-Africa Minerals & Energy Group (AAMEG) Awards – a new category that aimed to bring awareness to remarkable individuals making a significant positive impact on the ground in Africa.
West Wits Mining Head of Corporate Affairs Tozama Kulati Siwisa (MBA) took out the category, taking the stage with a powerful and inspiring speech that brought the audience to tears.
Awarded for uplifting the environmental, governmental and community frameworks of the Witwatersrand Basin Project in South Africa, Tozama has been instrumental in empowering young people and women, increasing the employment rate and supporting sustainable livelihoods beyond mining.
Throughout Tozama’s 20+ year journey to executive director, she faced hurdles of adversity. From loss and unemployment to early parenthood, the odds of success were stacked against her… she proved the punters wrong.
Tozama is an advocate for inclusive leadership, ESG strategy, stakeholder diplomacy and women’s advancement in mining. It was an honour sponsoring this category, and we couldn’t have picked a more deserving winner of the award ourselves.
She is a true inspiration, proving that with courage, discipline and self-belief, anyone can achieve their dreams, regardless of circumstance.
